#London #architecture New ideas include delivery drones to replace vans

I’m rather riveted by the way New London Architecture is getting us to think about the future of this sprawling, noisy, crowded, frenetic, frustrating and wonderful city. It’s running an exhibition (till February 24) called ‘Streets Ahead: The Future of London’s Roads’ to encourage predictions on how to unclogging the ground we walk on.

The ideas include driverless cars (though I’m not sure how they make for less traffic) and delivery service drones in the sky rather than those huge trucks and vans with their generally unfit and uncouth drivers. They’re also dreaming of intelligent buses (and presumably bus drivers to match), which will pinpoint and avoid congestion. Some of this city’s major roads are supposed to move into underground tunnels.

New London Architecture describes itself as an independent forum for discussion, debate and information about architecture, planning, development and construction in the capital and says its “core mission is to bring people together to shape a better city.”

They’ve certainly got some stimulating ideas going.
