Florida, here we come

Florida
Florida, where the American alligator is to be found

Off to Florida, one of the last frontiers to be ‘civilised’ in the US. Really just a peninsula, between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It has the longest coastline in the contiguous United States.

I never realized that it was named for the flowers that Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León saw blooming profusely when he landed there in 1513.

So, it’s off to La Florida (flowery land) for us.
