Ugly Sweater Day can be replicated, even here in Abu Dhabi. But why?

nucsd_logoSo yesterday, December 12, was Ugly Sweater Day. In the US. But you can do it anywhere. Here in Abu Dhabi, you could just wear an ugly linen shirt. Or a really hideous summer dress. Or a dreadful abaya.

As Quartz points out this seasonal onslaught of bad fashion is catching. Today, December 13, is the UK’s semi-official Christmas Jumper Day. “Next week thousands of Canadians will don brutal designs at the self-proclaimed pioneer of ugly Christmas sweater parties,” writes Quartz. (Click here to read the piece).

The whole point, explain the Ugly Sweater Day people (click here to find them) is meant to make the holiday season fun.

“Have the holidays let you down? Do you feel like the magic and mystique of Christmas has faded with maturity and age?” they ask, recommending Ugly Christmas Sweater Day as “a day of light hearted fun and a day to be yourself and not that buttoned up corporate version of yourself you have grown to despise.”

Hmmm… I’m not sure how much fun it is to wear something really ugly to work. Or anywhere.
