Speaking of a country sending a female envoy to the world, President Obama has appointed the highest percentage of women to ambassadorships – 116 of 367 or 31.6 per cent. That’s pretty amazing.
Diplopundit, the self-confessed “obsessive observer” of the US State Department has a chart courtesy Philip Arsenault within a blog (click here for both) going all the way back to President Roosevelt. At the time, the percentage of female representation at the level of ambassador was a mere two per cent.
But, it was Roosevelt who appointed the first female ambassador in his first term. In his second, he appointed a second.
