Jared Kushner is so last century (as in 19th)

In an earlier age, here’s what you might have expected British imperialists and Belgian Africa hands to say about India, Congo, large swathes of the planet where the “natives” are dark-skinned and the weather a bit hot: “The hope is that they, over time, will become capable of governing”.

Fast forward to 2019 and here’s what Jared Kushner, a millennial man who happens to be married to Donald Trump’s daughter, said about the Palestinian people: “The hope is that they, over time, will become capable of governing”.

The question posed to Mr Kushner, who is rather grandly attempting to bring peace to the Middle East was simple. He was  asked whether he believed the Palestinians were capable of governing themselves without Israeli interference. That’s when Mr Kushner said: “That’s one that we’ll have to see. The hope is that they, over time, will become capable of governing”.

He did, however, concede that the Palestinians “should have self-determination”.

Details later, he said. I can hardly wait.
