The Untied Kingdom
A people’s revolution is underway in the United Kingdom, only they forgot to tell the people.
Pro-independence leaders of the largest parties in three of the UK’s four countries have called for self-determination, declaring that “Westminster’s time is coming to an end” and “the future of our nations belongs in the European Union” (EU).
It’s a bold statement of an audacious aspiration. Independence from the UK does not have majority support in any of the three non-England territories, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Recent polling by Survation shows public backing for independence at 47% in Scotland and 32% in Wales, while a University of Liverpool survey found that only 36% of Northern Ireland would vote to leave the UK for a united Ireland.
