Port au Prince’s Carnaval des Fleurs: The enervating effects of ecstasy

RASHMEE ROSHAN LALL July 29, 2014

A few pictures from Port au Prince’s giant street party, which started Sunday and will run another 48 hours. Call me a skeptic but one has to wonder if the rest of the work week will be anything but a holiday. Who’s going to stagger into work after the enervating effects of “carnival”?

(Tomorrow: In Haiti, it’s emphatically not about bread and circuses. Just the latter)

The Ministry of Tourism float bore a giant hibiscus, the choublak, which is Haiti’s national flower and part of the ministry’s luscious logo. All photos: Rashmee Roshan Lall
