Look who’s giving Trump a character reference
Ghislaine Maxwell’s character reference for Donald Trump has to be one of the most jaw-dropping pieces of audio you can expect to hear.
At least in 2025. Who knows what horrors 2026 will bring?
Consider what the world has just been treated to.
Ms Maxwell, the convicted British socialite girlfriend of high-flying American paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, has been heard to exonerate the president of the United States of any involvement in the disgraced financier’s sex-trafficking scheme!
It’s alarming that sentence could even be written or make any sense.
In an interview transcript released by the US Justice Department, Ms Maxwell vouched for Mr Trump’s gentlemanly behaviour.
She told Todd Blanche, US Deputy Attorney General and former personal lawyer to Mr Trump that her newspaper magnate father “liked him [Trump] very much”.
She insisted she never saw Mr Trump in an “inappropriate setting” and that “the president was never inappropriate with anybody. In the times that I was with him, he was a gentleman in all respects”.
She gave a clean bill of health to members of Mr Trump’s cabinet, denying that their association with Mr Epstein was in any way inappropriate and claiming that it was unfair to vilify them. “Some are in your cabinet, who you value as your co-workers,” she said without naming names. However, at another point in the interview she mentioned US health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr., saying he had once joined Mr Epstein on a trip to hunt for dinosaur bones in the Dakotas. There was no way such people “would be with him [Epstein] if he was a creep or because they wanted sexual favours”, she said.
It’s a mad world that a woman serving a 20-year prison sentence should be called upon to certify the US president’s sense of propriety and that the American administration even expects a credulous reception.
