What Harare thinks today, Washington, D.C. tomorrow!

Trump’s America seems to want to follow an likely script. One set by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Zimbabwe.
Mr Mnangagwa’s ruling Zanu-PF is pushing to extend the president’s term by two years, with the proposal featuring at the party’s annual conference.
The Constitution would need to be amended because it limits presidents to two five-year terms but there appears to be some support for the idea the 83-year-old retain power at least until 2030.
Tab across the seas and there’s MAGA podcaster and former Donald Trump strategic advisor Steve Bannon suggesting that the US president will defy the Constitution and seek a third term in 2028.
Mr Bannon told The Economist’s Insider: “Trump is going to be president in ’28, and people just ought to get accommodated with that”.
He added that a plan exists to make this happen and there are “many different alternatives” for keeping Mr Trump in the White House. “At the appropriate time, we’ll lay out what the plan is,” he said darkly. “But there is a plan.”
